Housecleaning in a hurry
As a professional caregiver, one of the many duties I regularly performed was house cleaning.
With only two hours to clean before heading to the next client, efficiency is essential.
Note: This is for quick daily tidying, not deep cleaning!
So here we go!
If you are stripping the bed and want to be able to put the sheets back on the bed, start by putting the bed sheets in the laundry!
Kitchen
I usually begin in the kitchen, starting with the counters nearest the door and working around the room. Wipe down the counters,. Clear or slide aside counter items as you go, wiping underneath and replacing them. Now’s not the time to organize or declutter—just focus on getting the space clean! When you hit the sink, if there are any dishes place them neatly on the counter and wipe out the sink, the edges and the faucet, rinse and replace the dishes (we are not dealing with those right now) Keep working your way around, wipe down the stovetop, microwave and the handle on the refrigerator. Finish by taking out the garbage and mopping the floor (I prefer a Swiffer Wet for convenience)—and the kitchen is done!
(Don't throw the Swifter pad away just yet!)
Quick Microwave Cleaning Tip: If you want to easily clean stuck-on food from the microwave, try this method: Place a mug with half lemon juice and half water into the microwave and set the timer for 5 minutes. After it finishes, let the steam settle for a minute before carefully removing the mug. Dump the mixture and wipe down the inside of the microwave. The steam helps loosen food particles for easy cleaning!
Living room and Bedrooms
Next the living room and bedrooms
Dust all surfaces with a microfiber duster, lifting or sliding items as needed then put them back."
Finally, vacuum all the living room and bedroom carpeting to finish up these areas.
Check if the laundry is finished, move the load from the washer to the dryer.
Bathrooms
End with the bathroom, cleaning from least to most dirty areas. Wipe down the shower walls from top to bottom, finish with the floor, and rinse.
Use the same method as the kitchen, move across the countertop cleaning the sink when you encounter it, move items to clean underneath, rinse the sink out. Next the toilet, wipe down back to front, top to bottom. Apply toilet bowl cleaner, scrub thoroughly with brush, and flush and done. Remove the garbage, mop the floor, (You can use the same swifter wet as the kitchen) to clean the floor.
Finish by folding the laundry and remaking the bed.
Cleaning time: 1.5 hours for an apartment, up to 2 hours for a house.
With these quick and efficient cleaning tips, you can tackle everyday messes like a pro, keeping any space looking its best in less time. Whether you’re a caregiver, a busy professional, or simply short on time, this streamlined routine covers all the essentials—no deep cleaning required. Give it a try and see how much easier keeping a tidy home can be!
